Karachi administration has launched a crackdown to prevent overpricing during Ramadan. According to the first day’s report, action has been taken against 196 overpricing cases across all districts, with a total fine of Rs. 18 lakh 80thousand imposed
Magistrates checked prices at 491 locations, and at most places, they supervised the sale of essential commodities at official rates. According to Deputy Commissioners’ reports, magistrates personally oversaw the sale of goods at 61 locations.
The Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi has established three monitoring teams under the supervision of Commissioner Karachi officials to oversee efforts to prevent overpricing and strictly enforce official prices, and to support magistrates tasked with checking prices. All districts have been divided into three regions.
Additional Commissioner One Ghulam Mehdi Shah, Additional Commissioner 2 Asadullah Khoso, and Assistant Commissioner Revenue Sajjad Abro Ali will head the West, South, and East regions, respectively.
The West region includes the districts of West and Central, the South region includes the districts of South, Korangi, and Kemari, and the East region includes the districts of East and Malir.
The monitoring teams have been directed to visit complaint centers, model bazaars, and other shopping centers, and to make the Karachi administration’s efforts to provide relief to citizens more effective. they have also been asked to ensure price lists of essential commodities are displaced at all shops .
