FRANCE : A woman in the southern French city of Aiguille has been fined for repeatedly letting her cat wander into a neighbor’s garden. The cat’s name is Remy and the owner is said to be Dominique. It so happened that a neighbor complained that the cat repeatedly entered their garden, made a mess and left paw prints on the wet plaster. The court has fined the woman approximately 1,250 euros, which is equivalent to approximately $1,400 in US dollars and 393,000 in Pakistani rupees. In addition, the court ruled that if the cat goes into the neighbor’s garden again, the owner will have to pay a fine of 30 euros for each incident. This is an unusual case, as it is rare to see such a large fine imposed for pets roaming freely. The free-roaming of pets, especially cats, is common in both rural and urban areas in France, and the continuation of legal action against it is a new trend.
