Sindh Energy Minister Nasir Hussain Shah has announced that Karachi residents will soon benefit from cheaper electricity following the establishment of Sindh’s own power regulatory authority.
According to MM News, Sindh Energy Minister Nasir Hussain Shah stated that the Sindh Assembly has formally approved the Sindh Electric Power Regulatory Authority (SEPRA) and staff have already been appointed. The official notification is expected to be issued within this month.
According to Shah, this move will allow the province to independently set electricity tariffs, offering rates significantly lower than those of K-Electric. Power transmitted through the Sindh Transmission and Dispatch Company (STDC) will not be tied to NEPRA’s rates, as the province will generate and distribute electricity itself.
The minister added that both industries and households in Karachi will benefit from these reduced rates, with the first supply under SEPRA expected to reach the Four Grid in the near future.
