Imran Khan’s Sons Break Silence, Urge Global Attention on Father’s Imprisonment
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

In a rare public statement, former prime minister Imran Khan’s sons — Suleman Khan (28) and Qasim Khan (26) — have spoken out about their father’s imprisonment, appealing for international pressure to improve his situation. Imran Khan has been in Adiala Jail since August 2023, serving a sentence in a £190 million corruption case and facing additional charges under the Anti-Terrorism Act connected to the May 9 protests.

This marks the first time Suleman and Qasim have publicly addressed the matter. Although they were granted court permission in November 2023 to speak to their father weekly, they claimed that consistent communication has been difficult, with irregular call timings and long gaps between conversations.

In an interview with X (formerly Twitter) influencer Mario Nawfal, Qasim explained their decision to go public, stating that all legal avenues had been exhausted and that speaking out was now their only option. He emphasized the need for international intervention, citing the poor conditions and denial of basic rights Imran Khan is allegedly facing in prison.

Suleman echoed this, noting the lack of media attention on the issue and expressing gratitude for the support shown by international figures like former US official Richard Grenell, although they had no direct contact with him. They also expressed willingness to engage with former President Donald Trump, hoping he might help draw attention to their father’s plight.

The brothers shared that the ongoing situation has taken a significant emotional toll. They denied any political ambitions and said they had received their father’s consent before participating in the interview.

Their mother, Jemima Goldsmith, has previously distanced her sons from Pakistani politics, stressing that they are private individuals and not involved in public life. She has also criticized the spread of fake social media accounts impersonating them, especially after Twitter removed blue-check verifications, clarifying that her sons are not active on any social platforms.
