Former Japanese adult film actress Rae Lil Black, whose real name is Kae Asakura, has sparked widespread debate in Malaysia after sharing videos of herself breaking fast at mosques in Kuala Lumpur while dressed in traditional Muslim attire. Her posts ultimately led to an announcement of her conversion to Islam, drawing significant attention on social media.
Asakura’s spiritual journey gained momentum on TikTok, where she documented her exploration of Islam. She revealed her decision to observe Ramadan this year, which began on March 2, marking a profound shift in her life.
Her connection with Malaysia first surfaced during a visit in October, when she appeared in videos wearing a hijab and trying local dishes such as nasi kandar. She later shared her experiences in an interview with Singaporean podcaster Dzar Ismail.
Reflecting on an earlier visit to Kuala Lumpur in August, Asakura mentioned that she chose to wear a hijab to visit mosques and engage with the local Muslim community, who warmly welcomed her. “They were incredibly kind to me. They welcomed me with open arms,” she shared.
Addressing concerns about her past career, Asakura clarified that her previous videos were filmed long ago and that she no longer has control over them. Despite facing some criticism, she has received overwhelming support from the Muslim community, with many gifting her dates, Islamic books, and a prayer rug from Makkah.
