Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday inaugurated the Case Assignments and Management System (CAMS), a digital platform aimed at enhancing transparency and efficiency in the justice system. The initiative is expected to streamline case tracking, assignment, and resolution, benefiting litigants across Pakistan.

During the launch ceremony in Islamabad, the prime minister emphasized that CAMS was a long-overdue reform addressing the persistent demand for timely and fair justice. He expressed confidence that this system would significantly reduce delays and improve case management.

Reflecting on past attempts at digital transformation, Shehbaz acknowledged the failure of the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) track-and-trace system but assured that CAMS would succeed due to improved oversight and execution. He also highlighted ongoing trials of faceless interaction at Karachi port, with plans for expansion to seaports and dry ports nationwide.

The prime minister noted that trillions of rupees remained tied up in pending cases due to corruption and outdated processes. He stressed the need for expedited court decisions and revealed that he had recently urged the Chief Justice of Pakistan to prioritize such cases. As a result, the Sindh High Court adjudicated Rs24 billion, which will now be added to the national exchequer.

Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar highlighted that 98.5% of federal government work is now conducted through the e-business portal, ensuring swift legal amendments within 48 hours via a mobile app.

UNODC Country Representative Troels Vester and Canadian High Commissioner Leslie Scanlon praised the initiative, acknowledging Pakistan’s commitment to digital transformation, transparency, and environmental conservation by reducing paper waste.

The prime minister also presented certificates of appreciation to the CAMS development team for their contributions in implementing this groundbreaking system.
