Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has established an 8-member committee tasked with setting the Terms of Reference (TORs) for the distribution of free plots to deserving citizens. The committee will finalize the procedural framework for this initiative aimed at providing land to those in need.
In a detailed review of the 3 and 5-marla housing schemes, Maryam Nawaz directed that the construction of 20,000 houses in the province be completed by February 2025. She stressed the importance of achieving the target of building 100,000 homes annually.
The Chief Minister noted that significant progress has been made in Punjab, with 35 housing schemes and 2,807 plots being developed across 22 districts. Furthermore, she instructed the acceleration of 9 housing schemes and 1,119 plots in 7 districts to meet the increasing demand for affordable housing.
A special meeting led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz was also held to assess the progress of the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” (Own Roof, Own Home) program. During the session, the program’s implementation was thoroughly reviewed, and proposals were discussed to provide free plots to homeless citizens.
The briefing revealed that Rs. 8.2 billion in loans have already been distributed for the construction of 9,015 homes, with a second installment of loans granted to 2,050 individuals. Currently, 4,841 homes are under construction as part of the program.
The program has garnered significant interest, with over 728,000 citizens visiting the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” portal. More than 400,000 completed applications have been submitted, and over 74,000 draft applications are registered, with the document submission process still ongoing.
