The National Highway Authority (NHA) has announced a significant increase in toll taxes on national highways and motorways, effective from January 5, 2025.

The decision is part of the government’s efforts to generate additional revenue for the maintenance and development of the country’s infrastructure.

Here is a breakdown of the new toll rates:

National Highways (Effective January 5, 2025):
Cars: Rs. 60
Vans: Rs. 100
Buses: Rs. 200
2- and 3-Axle Trucks: Rs. 250
Articulated Trucks: Rs. 500
Motorways:
Islamabad–Peshawar Motorway (M-1):
Cars: Rs. 500 (up from Rs. 460)
Buses: Rs. 1,450
Lahore–Abdul Hakeem Motorway (M-3):
Cars: Rs. 700 (up from Rs. 650)
Buses: Rs. 2,200
Pindi Bhattian–Faisalabad–Multan Motorway (M-4):
Cars: Rs. 950 (up from Rs. 850)
Buses: Rs. 2,900
Multan–Sukkur Motorway (M-5):
Cars: Rs. 1,100 (up from Rs. 1,050)
Buses: Rs. 3,350

An NHA spokesperson explained that the toll tax hike is necessary to support the ongoing maintenance of existing infrastructure, as well as to fund new projects across the network.

He stated, “The additional revenue is crucial for maintaining existing infrastructure and funding new projects. This adjustment aligns with inflation and operational needs.”

This hike in toll rates reflects the increasing costs associated with maintaining Pakistan’s vast network of highways and motorways, with the NHA aiming to meet the financial demands for continuous improvements.
