Karachi Heatwave Alert: Temperatures Surge, Monsoon Relief Forecasted by Mid-July.

Karachi: The citizens of Karachi are preparing themselves for very hot weather as the city experiences a marked increase in temperatures after a cooler phase. The Meteorological Department has predicted hot and humid weather for Karachi today, with the Maximum temperature touching 37 degrees Celsius. This increase in temperatures is blamed on a low-pressure system expected to cover the country in the next few days, leading to a possible high of 38-39 degrees Celsius mid-week.

Citing the lack of cooling sea breezes, Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz pointed to the current situation as further worsening the heat being experienced across the city. Although he explained to residents that these conditions do not yet qualify as an official heat wave, he noted that heat intensity is set to rise in the following days.

There is hope on the way though as Sarfaraz indicated that the monsoon winds were expected to resume around July 18th. These winds are expected to bring a change in the weather and should provide some relief from current heat-like conditions. Besides, there are good signs in the weather forecast of heavy rain beginning around July 20 to perhaps decrease the heat even further and help the dry areas.

These forecasts have forced local authorities and residents to start preparing for hotter days by taking preventive measures on the increased temperatures. While Karachi prepares for record-high temperatures, the other points of interest are the effects of long-lasting heat on people and buildings.

In preparation for the changing weather, people have been advised to drink a lot of water, limit their time in the sun, and whenever possible move to air-conditioned buildings in the hottest part of the day. As the citizens of Karachi wait for monsoon rains, which should bring a major change in the weather later this month, some residents are eagerly anticipating cooler and wetter conditions.
