Free Eye Screening Camp at Dar-ul-Sukun.

Karachi : According to the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), the estimated number of
blind people in Pakistan has risen to around 1.88 million as of 2020, with a prevalence rate of 0.9% among
the country’s total population. Additionally, over 4.5 million children in Pakistan are affected by
uncorrected refractive errors. Unfortunately, access to eye care is severely limited due to a lack of
services, a shortage of professionals, and low awareness among the population.
Since 2018, Vision for Education Foundation has been a leader in vision health advocacy, offering free
eye screenings to students, and staff in government schools. The foundation also extends its services to
vulnerable populations by providing eye screenings at rehabilitation centers, special education facilities,
old age homes, prisons, and various other communities, thereby enriching countless lives.
On April 16, the foundation visited a Darul Sukun, Special Education Center to provide essential eye care
services to its residents. This screening camp aimed to raise awareness about eye health, enable early
detection of eye conditions and offer necessary treatments and corrective measures. By identifying
vision issues early and facilitating timely interventions, the foundation significantly improves the quality
of life for individuals in these communities. During this visit, 69 special needs children and 47 trainers
received eye screenings.
To date, Vision for Education Foundation has conducted 239,995 eye screenings, facilitated 1,148 corneal
transplantation, and made a profound impact on the lives of many children.
