In a thrilling turn of events, Valentina Greggio from Verbania clinched her fourth Speed Skiing World Championship title amidst challenging weather conditions in Vars, France. Despite strong winds disrupting the final phase of the competition, Greggio’s outstanding performance in the last run, clocking at 226.429 km/h, secured her the top spot on the podium.
The podium also saw Clea Martinez from France taking the second spot with a speed of 222.235 km/h, followed by Mathilda Persson from Sweden at 217.496 km/h. This victory marks Greggio’s fourth gold medal in the discipline, adding to her previous wins in 2015, 2017, and 2022.
On the men’s side, Simon Billy delighted the home crowd by claiming the world title with an impressive speed of 231.436 km/h. Radin Palam from the Czech Republic and Manuel Kramer from Austria secured the second and third spots, respectively.
Despite a technical equipment issue leading to disqualification for Simone Origone, and Samuele Capello finishing in 29th place, the competition showcased the incredible skill and determination of the athletes.
