KARACHI: Inspector General (IG) Sindh Police Raja Riffat Mukhtar has announced the forthcoming
provision of facial recognition technology for Karachi and 200 additional policemen to the Korangi
Association of Trade and Industry (KATI). The initiative aims to curb criminal activities disguised within
the industrial workforce.
During a visit to KATI, President Johar Qandhari, Deputy Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya, Senior Vice
President Nighat Awan, Vice President Muslim Mohammadi, Standing Committee Acting Chairman
Sheikh Umar Rehan, Former Presidents Masood Naqi, Saleem-uz-Zaman, Ehtshamuddin, Farrukh
Mazhar, Tariq Malik, Farrukh Qandhari, Additional IG Sindh Khadim Hussain Rind, DIG East Captain
Ghulam Azfar Mahesar, DIG Traffic Iqbal Dara, SSP Korangi Sardar Hasan Khan Niazi, SSP Traffic Korangi
Farah Ambreen, Assistant IG Administration Syed Ali Asif and others were present.
IG Raja Riffat Mukhtar highlighted the pivotal role technology plays in ensuring the safety of industrial
zones. He emphasized to make KATI a Model for other Industrial Areas and the need for collaboration
between law enforcement and industrial stakeholders, underlining the importance of modern tools like
facial recognition in swiftly identifying potential threats.
President of KATI, Johar Qandhari, expressed his support for the endeavor, emphasizing the importance
of community policing in ensuring a secure environment for businesses and workers alike. Qandhari
called for the completion of the Safe City project in Karachi and stressed the need to address manpower
shortages within the Sindh Police.
In response, Deputy Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya applauded the success of community policing
initiatives in Korangi while acknowledging challenges posed by logistical constraints. Chhaya
underscored the importance of increasing personnel for community policing and improving
infrastructure to enhance security measures.
Additional IG Karachi Khadim Hussain Rind disclosed plans to augment security personnel in the
industrial area and highlighted ongoing efforts to improve emergency response times. Rind emphasized
the role of advanced software in streamlining law enforcement operations and commended the decline
in reported incidents of violence under the Sindh Police’s watch.
During the event, Acting Chairman of the Standing Committee Sheikh Umar Rehan provided an overview
of current community policing efforts in Korangi, emphasizing the need for expansion into additional
sectors to ensure comprehensive coverage. During the event Masood Naqi, Tariq Malik, Ehtshamuddin
and DIG Traffic Iqbal Dara also addressed.
The collaborative efforts between KATI and Sindh Police mark a significant step towards fortifying
security measures in Karachi’s industrial hubs, with a focus on leveraging technology to deter criminal
activities and ensure the safety of workers and businesses.
