KARACHI : Addressing the 16th Lamp Lighting and Oath-Taking Ceremony of the Kharadar General Hospital School of Nursing, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that Kharadar General Hospital has provided 100 years of high-quality medical services to the underprivileged communities in Karachi. The institution, which initially started providing maternity services, has transformed into a postgraduate teaching hospital and nursing college, which reflect the dedicated efforts of the institution’s leaders and management.

He further stated that Karachi, due to its excellent educational and health facilities, holds a prominent position in Pakistan. Achieving this status non-government organizations has remarkable contribution along with government services. He addressed nursing students, emphasizing that being a nurse is not only about saving lives but also playing a crucial role in bringing hope and promoting positive will power.

During the ceremony, the President of the hospital and renowned philanthropist, Muhammad Bashir JanMuhammad, highlighted the importance of service, education, and research to alleviate the society from poverty, under development and diseases. He expressed concern about the impact of inflation and high costs on standard education and health facilities but commended Kharadar General Hospital for providing services with dignity, respect, and professionalism at highly subsidize charges.

MBJ School of Nursing at Kharadar General Hospital is providing top-quality educational facilities to hundreds of students. Scholarships are also being offered to talented and needy students. The Chairman of the hospital’s management committee, Professor Abdul Ghaffar Billoo, emphasized the need for 1 million nurses in Pakistan. He urged the authorities to align policies with the needs of the healthcare system, focusing on ground realities and bringing healthcare human resource to international standards. He further said, to achieve the target of millennium development goal & improve the health indicators, we have to realize the dire need & firm commitment.

Hospital CEO Dr. Khalid Iqbal emphasized that education, training, and research only can bring positive changes in society. Kharadar General Hospital, with over a century of experience, has trained thousands of doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff, providing high-quality services to people of all generations and ethnicities. The hospital has contributed significantly to healthcare services for the past century, serving 3 to 4 generations.

The Director of MBJ School of Nursing, Ms. Talat Parveen Shah, highlighted the crucial role of nurses in promoting healthy living. She acknowledged the significant responsibility nurses bear in saving lives and emphasized their vital role in thousands of life-saving efforts. During the ceremony, Principal Muhammad Shahid and other officials also addressed the audience.

In the ceremony, 100 students pledged to join the nursing field, symbolized by lighting lamps, and vowed to provide ethical and professional services. Long-Service Awards were distributed to employees who have served the hospital for an extended period.
