Karachi : Mr. Maqbool A Malik, Chairman, All Pakistan Customs Agents Association and Sheikh Tariq, Vice Chairman, All Pakistan Customs Agents Association, Calls Upon the Federal Government to Establish a Maritime, Shipping and Ports Ombudsman in Karachi
In an effort to foster transparency, efficiency, and fair practices in the shipping industry, Mr. Maqbool A Malik, Chairman, All Pakistan Customs Agents Association and Sheikh Tariq, Vice Chairman, All Pakistan Customs Agents Association, is urging the Federal Government to propose the establishment of a Shipping and Ports Ombudsman. The proposed Ombudsman, to be located in Karachi, would be a Federal body, headed by a distinguished individual, preferably a retired Judge from the Superior Courts, and equipped with a Secretariat.
The Shipping and Ports Ombudsman will play a pivotal role in resolving long-standing disputes and challenges faced by traders and citizens alike within the shipping sector. It will function as an independent entity, free from any external influences, thereby ensuring a fair and impartial approach to conflict resolution.
One of the main objectives of the Shipping and Ports Ombudsman is to streamline and optimize the processes involved in shipping and port operations. By doing so, it aims to minimize delays, reduce bureaucratic hurdles, and enhance the overall efficiency of these vital sectors. Sheikh Tariq, Vice Chairman All Pakistan Customs Agents Association, emphasizes the significance of selecting a reputable individual to lead the Ombudsman. A retired Judge from the Superior Courts is deemed the most suitable candidate, given their extensive experience in the legal domain and their unblemished track record in delivering justice. Such a person is expected to bring a wealth of expertise, integrity, and credibility to the position, instilling confidence in the stakeholders and ensuring the credibility of the Ombudsman’s decisions.
