Karachi (Staff Reporter) Karachi witnessed torrential rains last night that not only paralyzed daily life but also resulted in loss of precious human lives and severely disrupted commercial activity ahead of Eid al-Fitr, prompting concern from President of the Pak-Indonesia Business Forum Shamon Zaki.
According to details, heavy downpours inundated low-lying areas across the city, turning major roads into waterlogged stretches and bringing the traffic system to a near standstill. Several unfortunate incidents were also reported, leading to casualties.
Reacting to the situation, Shamon Zaki stated that the recent rains have badly affected business activities across the city, particularly at a crucial time when markets were gearing up for peak pre-Eid sales.
“This period is considered the most important business season of the year, but due to the rains, markets remained largely closed and customer turnout dropped significantly, causing substantial financial losses,” he said.
He further noted that disruptions in supply chains, delays in goods transportation, and outages in essential services have worsened the situation, the impact of which may continue in the coming days.
Expressing sorrow over the loss of lives, Shamon Zaki urged the government and relevant authorities to ensure immediate relief for affected families and to take urgent measures to improve the city’s drainage system.
He also emphasized the need to upgrade urban infrastructure in light of increasing climate change impacts to prevent such losses in the future.
