Sahar Ansari’s Literary Legacy Takes Centre Stage at Arts Council Karachi
A new book examining the poet and scholar’s multifaceted personality and work receives a warm response from Karachi’s literary community.

KARACHI: The literary contributions and multifaceted personality of renowned Pakistani poet, scholar and intellectual Professor Sahar Ansari were celebrated at a special reception held at the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi.
The event marked the launch and reception of the book “Pakistani Adab Ke Memaar — Sahar Ansari: Shakhsiyat Aur Fun”, published by the Academy of Letters Pakistan. Written by Dr Zia-ul-Hasan and Mushtaq Ahmed, the book is among the first comprehensive intellectual efforts to examine Sahar Ansari’s personality and literary work as a whole.
The ceremony, held at the Husna Moin Hall of the Arts Council, attracted a large gathering of Karachi’s poets, writers, academics and other distinguished guests. A significant number of prominent figures from the city’s literary circles attended the event.
Literary Community Pays Tribute
The programme began with a recitation of the Holy Quran by Shakeel Khan, followed by a naat in honour of Sahar Ansari. Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui presided over the ceremony, while Khalid Moin performed the duties of the host and conducted the proceedings.
Among the speakers were Dr Najiba Arif, Dr Kamran Jahangir, Dr Zia-ul-Hasan, Dr Saif-ur-Rehman Firasat Rizvi, Dr Rukhsana Saba, Dr Ambreen Haseeb Amber and Salman Pirzada. The speakers highlighted different dimensions of Sahar Ansari’s literary and intellectual contributions.
Poet Kamran Mughal also presented a poetic tribute expressing his admiration and affection for Sahar Ansari.

The organisers expressed their gratitude to Arts Council Karachi President Muhammad Ahmad Shah, Dr Najiba Arif and Dr Kamran Jahangir for their support and efforts in bringing the publication to readers and organising the event.
Dr Najiba Arif and Dr Kamran Jahangir also shared their views through video messages, adding to the tributes paid during the ceremony.
Sahar Ansari has remained an influential name in Pakistan’s literary landscape, and the new publication seeks to bring together critical perspectives on his personality, writings and intellectual contributions.
Dr Zia-ul-Hasan, one of the book’s authors, participated in the event online despite being unwell. Special appreciation was also expressed for Dr Saif-ur-Rehman Firasat Rizvi, who attended despite health difficulties and presented an article he had written for the occasion.

The ceremony ended with warm wishes for the participants and the sharing of photographic highlights from an evening dedicated to celebrating the life, work and literary legacy of Sahar Ansari.
