Addressing a ceremony in the federal capital, the prime minister said the government is preparing important and impactful initiatives focused on public welfare, which will be unveiled in the next budget.
Under the newly launched housing scheme, citizens will be able to obtain loans of up to Rs10 million on easy terms to construct their own homes. The initiative has been extended to all four provinces as well as Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, with the goal of ensuring wider access to affordable housing finance.
Prime Minister Sharif emphasized that a large segment of the population in Pakistan remains without adequate housing, calling it a “key national responsibility” to provide shelter to low and middle-income families. He congratulated beneficiaries of the scheme and reiterated that providing housing for the common man remains a top priority of the government.
He further stated that in the first phase, loans will be provided for 50,000 homes, with a financing allocation of Rs321 billion. Over the next four years, the government aims to facilitate the construction of 500,000 homes under the programme.
According to the prime minister, the total size of the scheme is expected to reach Rs3.2 trillion, supporting housing construction on plots of up to 10 marlas. He assured that he would personally review the progress of the project on a monthly basis to ensure effective implementation.
He also announced incentives for banks participating actively in the scheme, stating that institutions showing strong performance will be formally recognized on August 14 with awards for their contribution.
The prime minister added that the initiative would not only boost the construction sector but also stimulate industry and trade, helping generate broader economic activity across the country.
