Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the Maldives, H.E. Vice Admiral (R) Faisal Rasul Lodhi, paid a courtesy call on the newly appointed Maldivian Minister of Defence, H.E. Hassan Rasheed, on May 5 in Male, underscoring growing bilateral engagement in defence and security cooperation.

The meeting was attended by Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, Chief of Defence Forces of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), senior MNDF officials, and members of the Pakistani diplomatic mission.
During the discussions, Defence Minister Hassan Rasheed appreciated Pakistan’s strategic role in promoting peace and stability in the region and beyond. He also highlighted the importance of continued cooperation between the two countries in addressing shared security challenges.
Both sides reaffirmed that Pakistan and Maldives enjoy historic and brotherly relations, rooted in shared faith, mutual trust, common interests, and longstanding respect.
The two officials acknowledged that defence and security cooperation between the two countries is on a positive trajectory. They discussed multiple avenues for expanding collaboration, including training, capacity building, and institutional linkages.
It was mutually agreed to further strengthen defence and security ties through close coordination and sustained engagement in the coming period.
