Case of the armed attack on the sacred Shrine of Sayyida Khadija Bibi Maham’s; Mir Imdad Talpur seeks neutral inquiry Justice delayed is justice denied: Biased probe in Shrine attack slammed
HYDERABAD: On the morning of Eidul Fitr, some known armed miscreants attacked the sacred shrine of the Masooma-e-Sindh Sayyida Khadija Maham (S.A) binte Imam Musa Kazim (A.S). They vandalized the shrine, harassed visitors and employees of the Auqaf Department with abusive language, and damaged the ongoing construction work initiated by the Sindh Government’s Auqaf Department by kicking and striking it with sticks before fleeing the scene.
The incident was reported to the Gulab Laghari Police Station. Though a police team visited the site, no further action was taken, and silence prevailed since then. In reaction to this situation, mourning organizations and associations across Sindh began a series of protests. When 36 hours had passed with no action, and protests continued across the province, the police finally registered an FIR under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Gulab Laghari Police Station against 15 known and 10 unknown individuals. This seemed to be an attempt to pacify the protestors and bring calm.
However, even nine days after the FIR was registered, the police have made no attempt to investigate the matter, revealing the apparent bias and close ties between the Gulab Laghari Police Station staff and those named in the FIR. Given the lack of action even after so many days, there is a clear fear that the case will be deliberately sabotaged during the investigation.
As this is an extremely sensitive and high-profile case, we strongly demand that the Inspector General of Sindh Police and all security agencies immediately to take notice of the matter and transfer the inquiry from Gulab Laghari Police Station to another neutral police station and officer with a good reputation.
This demand was made during a meeting of the Central Advisory Council of the Azadari Coordination Committee Hyderabad, held at Imambargah Saya-e-Alamdar (A.S.) under the chairmanship of Sindh’s senior elegy reciter, Mir Imdad Ali Piral Talpur. The meeting appealed to all mourning organizations and associations across Sindh to raise a strong protest against the armed attack on the sacred shrine of Bibi Pak and the biased attitude of the Gulab Laghari Police Station staff, even nine days after the FIR was filed.
