Karachi, 15th Jan 2025: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab announced to allocate a dedicated space for the hemophilia centre to provide multidisciplinary medical care to this bleeding disorder community.
He made this announcement during his visit to the Hemophilia Treatment Center (HTC) run by the Hemophilia Welfare Society Karachi (HWSK) in the Nazimabad area of the city.
On his arrival, he was warmly received by Mr. Raheel Ahmed, founder and CEO HWSK, a patient of hemophilia himself and his team.
The Mayor met with patients battling hemophilia and oversaw the distribution of education funds generously provided by the Save One Life, Inc. to enrolled beneficiaries.
This visit reinforced the Society’s dedication in addressing the critical healthcare needs of hemophilia patients and its efforts to enhance access to treatment.
Dr Azmatullah Lund, Chairman UC Pipri, President Anis Ur Rehman, founder members Rana Asghar Ali, Fakhar Alam Zaidi were also present on the occasion.
During the visit, Barrister Murtaza Wahab engaged with patients and their families, gaining insights into their daily challenges and the far-reaching impact of hemophilia on their lives.
Raheel Ahmed, Founder and CEO of HWSK, presented an overview of hemophilia—a rare bleeding disorder caused by a deficiency of clotting factors—and the life-threatening complications it poses without timely intervention. He also highlighted the journey of HWSK in establishing the Hemophilia Treatment Center in Karachi, district Mirpurkhas and district Sanghar which serves as a lifeline for patients across Sindh province.
Raheel Ahmed emphasized the urgent need for comprehensive care facilities, explaining, “While our daycare center offers essential support, the lack of tertiary care facilities limits our ability to manage critical cases effectively. Allocating space for a hemophilia ward at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital would enable us to provide specialized, multidisciplinary care and ensure timely, life-saving treatment for our patients,” Mr. Raheel Ahmed urged.
In response, Mayor Mr. Wahab issued immediate directives to allocate space within Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for the establishment of a dedicated hemophilia center. He also supported the treatment and care of patients by making donations during his visit to the hemophilia center.
He acknowledged the vital role played by HWSK in improving the lives of hemophilia patients and emphasized his commitment to support transformative healthcare initiatives.
“The work being done here is crucial for the community,” remarked Mayor Karachi. “I am committed to ensure that initiatives like these receive the necessary support to bring impactful healthcare solutions to Karachi and beyond. Allocating space for a hemophilia ward is an essential step toward addressing this pressing need,” he committed.
The Hemophilia Welfare Society Karachi expressed its heartfelt gratitude to Barrister Murtaza Wahab for his decisive support and to Save One Life for their invaluable contribution to the educational advancement of hemophilia patients. Together, these efforts promise to bring hope and improved healthcare to countless lives.
