KARACHI: Former Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police Ghulam Nabi Memon said that leading the Sindh Police was both a great honour and a heavy responsibility for him, adding that the maintenance of law and order, supremacy of the law, and protection of the lives and property of citizens and industrialists always remained his foremost priorities.
He expressed these views while addressing a reception held in his honour by the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI). The ceremony was attended by KATI President Muhammad Ikram Rajput, Acting Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya, Senior Vice President Zahid Hameed, Vice President Muhammad Talha Ali, CPLC Chief Zubair Habib, KITE Limited Chairman Zahid Saeed, CEO Saleem-uz-Zaman, former KATI chairmen and presidents Farhan-ur-Rehman, Masood Naqi, Syed Johar Ali Qandhari, Ehteshamuddin, Farukh Mazhar, Rashid Siddiqui, Sheikh Umer Rehan, Tariq Malik, Pakistan Leather Association Chairman Danish Aman, and other prominent industrialists and business leaders.

Ghulam Nabi Memon said that industry and trade form the backbone of any economy, and providing a secure environment for this sector is a fundamental responsibility of the police. He appreciated KATI for the warmth, sincerity and respect shown to him, terming it a matter of pride.
Praising the role of Karachi’s industrial community, particularly KATI, the former Sindh IG said the association had always played a positive role in promoting peace, development and prosperity by working closely with law enforcement agencies. He added that strong and trusting relations between the police and the business community are essential for a stable and prosperous society. He expressed satisfaction that during his tenure, mutual trust, effective coordination and cooperation between the police and industrialists were strengthened, yielding visible positive results.
KATI President Muhammad Ikram Rajput said the business community had gathered to honour a personality who not only led the Sindh Police effectively but also rendered valuable services for improving law and order, upholding the rule of law and introducing institutional reforms.

He said Ghulam Nabi Memon’s tenure came at a time when Sindh, particularly Karachi, was facing serious challenges related to security, crime and the protection of economic activities. His professional
competence, integrity and impartial leadership boosted the morale of the police force and enhanced
public confidence, he added.
Acting Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya said that during Ghulam Nabi Memon’s tenure, coordination between the police and industrialists improved significantly, a culture of consultation was promoted, and special attention was given to security issues in industrial zones, particularly the Korangi Industrial Area. He noted that under his leadership, Sindh Police took effective measures against crime while also promoting modern policing practices, use of technology and merit-based decision-making.
CPLC Chief Zubair Habib also paid tribute to the former IG Sindh, stating that his services would always be remembered by the people of Sindh, the police force and the business community.
