Karachi: Karachi has taken action to address traffic congestion by relocating all illegal intercity bus stands to the new Super Highway bus terminal. Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi, was updated on this change in a recent meeting attended by Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, DIG Traffic, Deputy Commissioners, and Secretary Provincial Transport Authority Oakash Memon.
Bus stands previously located at Sagheer Hussain Shaheed Road (Saddar), MA Jinnah Road (Taj Complex), Cantt Station, Al-Karam Square, Qayyumabad, and Qalandaria Chowk have been closed. This move is designed to improve traffic flow and safety.
It was reported that 267 intercity buses were operating illegally. A fine of Rs 830,000 was imposed, and thirty-five buses were temporarily impounded but later released after operators agreed to comply with the new rules. Eighteen buses received warnings to avoid operating within the city limits.
Operators have been warned that their permits will be revoked for further violations. To help with the transition, a free shuttle service is now available to take passengers from the old bus stands to the new terminal at the Super Highway.
