KARACHI — The body of a young man from Karachi, who was killed in a missile strike in Iran, has yet to be repatriated to Pakistan, family members confirmed on Monday.

Yasir, 26, a resident of the Mauripur area, had travelled to Iran six months ago on a work visa and was employed as a tugboat operator at Bandar Abbas Port. He was killed when a missile struck his vessel during heightened regional tensions.

According to his brother Wajid, the body is expected to be handed over by Iranian authorities at the Taftan border either late Monday or early Tuesday. Officials from the Balochistan government will receive the body and facilitate its transfer to the family.

A representative of the Edhi Foundation, Saad Edhi, said all arrangements for receiving the body and transporting it to Karachi have been finalized, with a facilitation camp established at the Taftan border.

Family members said Yasir’s last contact with them was during Eid via a video call. They were later informed of the incident by one of his colleagues, while the shipping company subsequently confirmed his death. He is survived by his wife and a child.

The incident comes amid escalating tensions in the region. Earlier this month, a fisherman from Gwadar was killed after debris from a missile strike struck his boat in Iranian waters. In a separate incident, falling debris in Abu Dhabi injured six Pakistani and Nepalese nationals following intercepted aerial activity.
