In a welcome move for Karachi residents facing persistent load shedding, the federal government has announced an increase of 700 megawatts in electricity supply to the city. During a meeting of the Standing Committee, the Secretary of the Power Division confirmed that the federal supply to Karachi will rise from 900 MW to 1,600 MW.
Despite this increase, citizens are still struggling with routine, unannounced outages, particularly during Karachi’s sweltering heat. The announcement comes amid growing public frustration over K-Electric’s performance.
Separately, the federal government has fallen short in delivering the full electricity bill relief promised by the prime minister. While a Rs 7.41 per unit relief was announced, only Rs 5.80 per unit has been applied so far.
Due to surging power costs and inconsistent supply, many consumers across Pakistan are now turning to solar energy solutions as a more reliable and cost-effective alternative.
