Karachi: Engro Vopak Terminal Limited and Engro Elengy Terminal Limited hosted a major industry event in Karachi, bringing together stakeholders from Pakistan’s maritime and energy ecosystem to highlight the critical importance of terminal infrastructure in supporting national economic stability, energy security, and industrial growth.

The event was attended by Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry and Chairman Port Qasim Authority Port Qasim Authority Rear Admiral (R) Syed Moazzam Ilyas, alongside senior representatives from Engro and industry stakeholders.
Speaking on the occasion, the Federal Minister said Pakistan’s maritime progress depends on strong collaboration between the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Port Qasim Authority, and private sector partners such as Engro. He emphasized that Pakistan’s domestic investment potential must be prioritized for long-term national development, noting that the country’s maritime sector continues to offer significant opportunities for growth.
Officials highlighted that nearly 90% of Pakistan’s trade is conducted through sea routes, making efficient terminal operations essential for the uninterrupted movement of LNG, LPG, chemicals, and other industrial inputs that sustain economic activity across the country.
Syed Ammar Shah, CEO of Engro’s terminal operations, said the company views itself as an enabler of national progress, ensuring continuous supply chains through safe and efficient cargo handling at ports.
He stated that Engro Elengy Terminal Limited contributes approximately 15% of Pakistan’s daily gas requirements and has generated significant savings in power generation costs through improved efficiency. Meanwhile, Engro Vopak Terminal Limited serves nearly half of the country’s imported gas demand, playing a vital role in maintaining energy continuity.
The company also noted that its chemical handling operations support key sectors such as textiles, agriculture, construction, and infrastructure development. These operations involve the safe management of hazardous materials including cryogenic, toxic, and flammable substances, forming a critical part of Pakistan’s industrial supply chain.
Engro officials added that their terminal infrastructure has generated substantial economic value through cost savings and improved logistics efficiency, reinforcing Pakistan’s position as a regional trade and energy hub.
The event concluded with a shared commitment to further strengthen maritime infrastructure, attract investment, and enhance operational efficiency to support Pakistan’s long-term economic resilience.
