PESHAWAR, April 25: At least eight people, including five policemen, were injured in two separate attacks by unidentified assailants in Khar tehsil of Bajaur district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa late Friday night, officials said.
According to police and rescue authorities, the first incident occurred in the Lowi Sam area, where gunmen opened fire on a police vehicle carrying personnel to a nearby post. Five policemen sustained injuries in the ????, which officials described as non-fatal. The attackers managed to flee the scene.
A spokesperson for the district police confirmed that the area, generally considered relatively peaceful, was shaken by the sudden assault. Police teams from the local station rushed to the site and launched a search operation to trace those involved.
Approximately 20 minutes later, a second attack targeted a Rescue 1122 ambulance in the Rashakai area of Khar. The ambulance was on its way to transport the injured policemen to the District Headquarters Hospital when it came under fire.
Three individuals, including the ambulance driver and two civilians, were wounded in the second incident. Security forces quickly cordoned off the area, and a heavy police contingent initiated a search operation.
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the coordinated attacks, which have heightened fear among residents in the ???????.
Lawmakers, including PTI MPA Dr Hamidur Rehman and ANP MPA Muhammad Nisar Baz Khan, strongly condemned the incidents. In separate statements, they termed the attacks unacceptable and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.
The ?????? ??????? in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has deteriorated over the past year. According to the Centre for Research and Security Studies, fatalities in the province increased significantly, rising from 1,620 in 2024 to 2,331 in 2025.
Recent incidents in Bajaur highlight the ongoing volatility in the region. Just days earlier, militants blew up an abandoned police post in Lowi Mamund tehsil, while a mortar shell fired from across the Afghan border struck a residential house, though no casualties were reported. Another attack last week left a policeman injured when a police post in War Mamund tehsil was targeted.
Security forces continue search operations in the affected areas as authorities vow to bring the perpetrators to justice.
