Eid al Ghadeer is a Muslim festival which is celebrated on 18 Zilhajj around the world. It is also known as Eid Ahl al-Bayt Muhammad, the supreme Eid or Day of covenant. On this festival, people send gifts to each other, make special meals, make prayers. It is said to be the festival of Shia Muslims but actually it is the festival of the whole Muslim community who believe/assent Hazrat Ali ibn e Abi Talib (Mola Ali AS).
The history about this festival is; On 18 Zilhajj, our beloved Prophet Muhammad SAW delivered an important message to the Muslims those were returning from the Farewell Pilgrimage of Muhammad SAW oh a place called Ghadeer Khum (a place situated between Mecca and Madina).
The message was “For whomever I’m his Mola then Ali is his Mola ”and “This day have those who reject faith given up all hope of your religion: yet fear them not but fear Me. This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion. (Quran 5:3)
And due to this announcement of Prophet Muhammad SAW, Muslims celebrate this day as their Eid. It’s name Eid e Ghadeer was named by the name of that place Ghadeer Khum where all this happened.
Now as Shia and Sunni community of Muslims is always against each other; Shia community thinks that we Sunnis have some serious and personal issues with Hazrat Ali ibn e Abi Talib (Mola Ali AS). This is totally a misunderstanding, we love him, we follow him, we believe him as our Mola; as it is guided by our beloved Prophet Muhammad SAW.
There are some misconceptions between these two communities and till the date no one has corrected them. Even those Shia Sunni disagreements are increasing day by day. What we can do is just mind our own businesses and don’t talk about anything related to this matter.
