General Asim Munir Promoted to Field Marshal by Federal Cabinet

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has approved the elevation of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir to the rank of Field Marshal, as reported by ARY News.

Sources indicate that Prime Minister Sharif also briefed President Asif Ali Zardari about the decision to ensure alignment and mutual confidence between key offices.

In the same session, the cabinet unanimously decided to extend the tenure of the Air Chief Marshal following the completion of his current term.

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir expressed deep gratitude to Almighty Allah for this prestigious recognition. In his statement, he dedicated the honor to the people of Pakistan, the armed forces, and particularly to the martyrs and veterans, both military and civilian.

“I sincerely thank the President, Prime Minister, and the Cabinet for placing their trust in me,” he said. “This distinction is not mine alone; it belongs to the entire nation and the Pakistan Armed Forces.”

He further emphasized, “This rank is a sacred responsibility, and millions of Asims are ready to defend and uphold this trust with their lives.” Field Marshal Munir also expressed heartfelt appreciation to the nation for its consistent support.
