Karachi, May 23, 2025 – The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced that all banks across the country will remain closed on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, in observance of Youm-e-Takbeer, following a public holiday declared by the federal government.
In an official statement, the SBP said:
“The State Bank of Pakistan will remain closed on May 28, 2025 (Wednesday) being public holiday on the occasion of ‘Youm-e-Takbeer’, as declared by the Government of Pakistan.”
Youm-e-Takbeer marks the anniversary of Pakistan’s successful nuclear tests conducted on May 28, 1998, in Chagai, Balochistan. The tests established Pakistan as the seventh nuclear power in the world and are celebrated as a symbol of national defense and sovereignty.
The Establishment Division formally notified the public holiday, and the Sindh government also confirmed province-wide observance a day earlier.
All banking services, including branches and offices of the central bank, will resume operations on Thursday, May 29, 2025.
