Karachi : Akram Khan Kohati, CEO of Saif and Associates and Convener of the Central Standing Committees on Youth & Development and Social Media, has expressed serious concern over the deteriorating internet services and frequent disruptions of social media platforms in Pakistan. He warned that the ongoing internet crisis poses a significant threat to the country’s IT industry and digital economy, and if urgent action is not taken, it could irreparably harm the economic future of the youth.
Mr. Kohati highlighted that young freelancers and entrepreneurs in Pakistan heavily rely on international e-commerce platforms such as Upwork and Fiverr to earn their livelihoods. However, the recent issues with internet connectivity have severely impacted their income. He emphasized that Pakistan’s digital marketing industry, a key contributor to the national economy, is on the brink of collapse, leaving millions of people worried about their financial stability.
He further pointed out that the poor internet infrastructure and disruptions in social media platforms are not only affecting local businesses but are also eroding the trust of international clients in Pakistan’s digital workforce.
Akram Khan Kohati urged the government, telecommunications companies, and other relevant stakeholders to take immediate and concrete steps to improve internet services. He called for the provision of reliable, high-speed internet across the country to enable the youth to continue their work on digital platforms and drive economic growth.
“We are living in the 21st century, yet the quality of internet service in Pakistan is alarmingly poor. This is unacceptable. It is imperative that we address this issue urgently to protect the livelihoods of our youth and ensure Pakistan’s place in the global digital economy,” Mr. Kohati stated.
