Speaking at the occasion, Chairman Muhammad Hassan Bakshi stated that India’s violations of the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 could destabilize the region and harm millions who depend on the Indus River system. He emphasized that the Indus Waters Treaty has long been a vital source of cooperation and peace between Pakistan and India. Any unilateral alteration of the treaty’s terms by either party is not only illegal but also poses a grave threat to Pakistan’s water security, agriculture, and economic stability.
Through the resolution, ABAD urged the United Nations, the World Bank, and other international bodies to immediately take notice of India’s water aggression. ABAD also appealed to the Government of Pakistan to take all possible diplomatic and legal steps to protect the country’s rights over its river.
