A high-level meeting was convened at the Board of Investment (BOI) Karachi Office, presided over by the Federal Minister for BOI Mr. Qaiser Ahmed Shaikh. The meeting was also attended by Chief Executive Officer of the Pakistan Business Council, the Special Secretary of Industries from Punjab, the Secretary of the Sindh Investment and Trade Department, and representatives from the Sindh Investment Board.
The primary agenda of the meeting centred on enhancing the ease of doing business in Pakistan and reviewing the progress of the Pakistan Regulatory Modernization Initiative (PRMI) across various provinces. During the meeting, representatives from both Punjab and Sindh presented updates on ongoing reforms and initiatives aimed at improving the regulatory environment for businesses.
The Secretary of Investment from Sindh elaborated on the province’s one-stop service initiative, highlighting its positive impact on business facilitation. This initiative aims to streamline procedures and reduce the bureaucratic hurdles faced by entrepreneurs, thereby fostering a more conducive environment for investment. Discussions during the meeting also underscored the critical importance of eliminating overlapping regulations, enhancing coordination between federal and provincial government bodies, and strengthening the efficiency of digital platforms designed for business operations.
Participants advocated for the harmonization of laws across provinces, the provision of support for small businesses, and the promotion of skill development through partnerships with technical institutions.
The Minister expressed appreciation for the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to holding regular consultative meetings. This initiative aims to ensure that all provinces and representatives from the private sector remain actively engaged in the reform process, thereby fostering a more efficient and inclusive business environment in Pakistan.
