ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan has declared 20,000 polling stations sensitive, sources said on Thursday.
ECP Secretary Babar Yaqoob said that NACTA chief had given a detailed briefing to the ECP and following his briefing, the ECP decided to take military assistance for the security of polling station in the upcoming general elections.
As many as 1.6 million staffers will perform duties at the elections day, including 450,000 police and 300,000 armed forces personnel.
Pakistan Army personnel will perform duty at polling stations under presiding officers.
The ECP secretary further said the impression that Army will work independently is wrong, adding that Pak Army will work within the law.
He said security of electoral staff has been increased in Balochistan and decision had been taken citing the 2013 elections when a polling officer was killed.
The security of sensitive polling station would not only be increased but constant monitoring will also be ensured in order to avoid any untoward situation at the polling day. CCTV cameras will be install at all sensitive polling stations in order to ensure free and fair elections.
