FM urges int’l community to play role in providing economic assistance to Afghans

ISLAMABAD – Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has urged the international community to play its role in providing economic assistance to Afghans on humanitarian basis.

In a telephonic conversation with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov and German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas on telephone today, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan always supported the Afghan peace process.

The Foreign Minister said in present situation, the security of Afghan citizens and the protection of their rights should be a top priority.

He said Pakistan is committed to the early implementation of Stream Gas Pipeline Project with Russia.

Talking to his German counterpart Heiko Maas, the Foreign Minister said peace in Afghanistan is essential for stability in the region.

He also invited his German counterpart to visit Pakistan.

Meanwhile, in a telephonic conversation with his Turkish Counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu today (Saturday), he expressed the hope that the Afghan leaders would work together to achieve inclusive political settlement.

Both the Foreign Ministers agreed to coordinate closely on the situation in Afghanistan.

The two Foreign Ministers also recalled the recent telephone conversation between Prime Minister Imran Khan and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan about developments in Afghanistan.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi apprised his Turkish counterpart of Pakistan’s facilitative role in evacuation of personnel of Embassies, international organizations, media entities and others.

On this occasion, Foreign Minister Cavusoglu appreciated Pakistan’s role in the current situation and thanked Foreign Minister Qureshi for facilitating Turkey’s evacuation efforts.
