KARACHI – A varying length anti–polio drive will begin in 11 districts of Punjab and 16 Districts of Balochistan and 22 districts of Sindh from tomorrow (Monday).
According to a spokesperson of the Punjab Health Department, 17,000 polio teams have been constituted to administer polio drops to around 10 million children in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Okara, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Multan, Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Rahimyar Khan and Rajanpur.
Whereas the Coordinator Emergency Operation Centre Balochistan Rashid Razzaq told our Quetta correspondent during the drive more than 1.6 million children up to five years of age would be administered anti-polio drops and 7192 teams have been constituted to administer the drops to the children during door to door drive.
In Sindh, 50,000 polio workers in 22 districts will administer polio drops to around 7.4 million children with special focus on Karachi.
Chief Secretary Sindh Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah directed the deputy commissioners to achieve the 100 per cent target of the polio campaign.
Meanwhile, seven-day anti-polio vaccination campaign is underway in Peshawar.
According to district administration over 742376 children will be administered polio drops across the district by over two thousand teams.
Tight security measures have also been made for the security of polio teams.
