Businessmen Alliance leaders Zubair Motiwala and Mian Anjum Nisar announce their FPCCI election partnership.

Businessmen Group (BMG) Chairman Zubair Motiwala and Businessmen Panel (BMP) Chairman Mian Anjum Nisar have formed the Pakistan Businessmen Alliance, bringing two major business groups together to contest the FPCCI Elections 2027–28.

The alliance will field candidates for the presidency and all other available positions at the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI). It will unite BMG, BMP and other like-minded groups and individuals under one platform.

The two leaders announced the decision during a press conference at the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Thursday. They said the alliance would promote democratic principles, transparency and fairness while protecting the electoral rights of the business community.

Alliance Seeks to Protect Sindh’s Representation

Motiwala and Nisar said recent developments had made the alliance necessary. They pointed to the FPCCI Secretary General’s rejection of nomination papers submitted by KCCI and other organisations.

The leaders questioned the fairness of the process and raised concerns about institutional transparency and Sindh’s representation in the country’s leading trade body.

They said BMG and BMP would contest the elections together to protect every trade organisation’s legitimate electoral rights. They also urged FPCCI to follow its rules, democratic principles and established provincial rotational arrangements.

Partnership to Continue Beyond Elections

The two chairmen stressed that their partnership would continue beyond the 2027–28 elections.

They pledged to work together on Pakistan’s major economic challenges and push for meaningful reforms. Their priorities include Industrialisation, export growth, investment, employment generation and solutions to business community concerns.

They said Pakistan’s economic difficulties demanded unity, collective wisdom and coordinated engagement with the government and relevant institutions.

Through the alliance, they aim to strengthen the business community’s voice on national economic issues and protect the country’s wider economic interests.

Motiwala Questions Candidate’s Provincial Eligibility

Addressing the controversy surrounding a proposed candidature and Sindh’s rotational turn, Motiwala questioned the individual’s alleged electoral and organisational links with Punjab.

He called for an examination of the individual’s voting record, previous electoral participation and positions held in Punjab. He said stakeholders should review documentary evidence before accepting any claim of representation from Sindh.

Motiwala also referred to an alleged change in the individual’s electoral record with the Election Commission of Pakistan in October 2025. He called on the relevant authorities to make the documents available for verification.

He argued that verifiable records, the originating trade organisation and applicable rules should determine provincial representation. In his view, a residential or business address alone should not establish provincial entitlement.

Sindh’s Turn Under Rotational Arrangement

Motiwala said the Federal region held the previous turn and that Sindh should receive the forthcoming opportunity.

He questioned the challenge to the established sequence and the reported effort to advance a candidature allegedly linked to another provincial jurisdiction.

“Why should the established rotational arrangement be compromised when the turn belongs to Sindh? If every province is expected to respect the sequence, the same principle must apply equally to everyone. Those who genuinely believe in fairness and transparency should have no difficulty respecting the agreed rotational mechanism,” he said.

He described the rotational arrangement as an important safeguard for equitable provincial participation in FPCCI leadership.

Motiwala warned that any departure from the system could weaken provincial representation and create an undesirable precedent for future elections. He urged chambers, trade associations and other stakeholders to support the arrangement and protect Sindh’s electoral rights.

Motiwala Highlights Karachi’s Economic Contribution

Highlighting Karachi’s role in the national economy, Motiwala claimed that the city contributes more than 67 per cent of Pakistan’s national revenue and 54 per cent of its exports.

He said Karachi’s economic importance and Sindh’s claim under the rotational arrangement deserved proper recognition.

“Denying the province its rightful opportunity is not an issue that can be taken lightly. We must stand together to protect our representation and ensure that the principles governing FPCCI’s elections are respected,” he said.

Alliance Vows to Pursue Legal Options

Motiwala reaffirmed the alliance’s commitment to defending KCCI’s institutional rights and the business community’s legitimate representation.

He said the group would approach all available legal and regulatory forums if necessary.

“We have reached a point where remaining silent is no longer an option, hence, we decided to contest the forthcoming FPCCI elections,” he added.

The formation of the Pakistan Businessmen Alliance brings BMG and BMP together ahead of the FPCCI Elections 2027–28. The two groups say they will continue their joint efforts to protect electoral rights, ensure fair provincial representation and address the business community’s concerns.
