Farooq Naek: Senator urges constitutional supremacy and equal justice at a ceremony in Dadu.

Senator Farooq Hamid Naek has stressed that constitutional supremacy, the rule of law and equal justice are essential foundations of Pakistan’s democracy.

Addressing a ceremony at Government Pir Ilahi Bux Law College in Dadu, he highlighted the importance of equal access to justice. The event marked the 51st death anniversary of former Sindh chief minister Pir Ilahi Bux.

Naek, Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Law and Justice, said the law must apply equally to the powerful and the vulnerable. He added that social status, political affiliations and financial resources should never determine a citizen’s access to justice.

Tribute to Pir Ilahi Bux’s Educational Legacy

The senator paid tribute to Pir Ilahi Bux for his contributions to education, politics and public service. He said the former chief minister’s legacy continues to inspire generations across Sindh.

Naek highlighted his efforts to expand elementary education and promote adult and women’s education. He also recognised his role in efforts to establish the University of Sindh and support institutions such as Dow Medical College and S.M. Law College.

Describing education as one of Pir Ilahi Bux’s lasting contributions, Naek urged students to carry forward his commitment to public welfare and educational development.

Law Students Urged to Uphold Professional Ethics

Naek said legal education must extend beyond statutes and judicial decisions. It should prepare lawyers to uphold constitutional principles, professional integrity and justice.

He urged young lawyers to use their knowledge to protect citizens’ rights and serve the public interest. Personal gain, he stressed, must not take priority over justice.

The senator also called on lawyers to defend their clients while respecting the courts and following professional ethics. He said Pakistan needs legal professionals who protect constitutional supremacy rather than serve individual interests.

Naek encouraged students to study the Constitution of Pakistan, fundamental rights and judgments of the superior courts. He noted that the quality of justice depends on lawyers’ competence, integrity and courage, as well as the judicial system.

Senator Recalls Inauguration of College Building

Recalling his association with the institution, Naek said he inaugurated the law college’s present building in 2012 while serving as Federal Minister for Law and Justice.

He praised the college’s modern digital facilities and online lectures. He also welcomed its efforts to strengthen cooperation with other educational institutions.

The senator said expanding public-sector law colleges could improve access to legal education for students from different socioeconomic backgrounds. However, he stressed that institutions must also ensure quality teaching, qualified faculty and access to legal research.

He highlighted the importance of practical training, moot courts and professional ethics in preparing future lawyers.

Speakers Praise Pir Ilahi Bux’s Public Service

Retired Justice Abdul Rasool Memon praised Pir Ilahi Bux and his family for their contributions to Sindh. He described the former chief minister as a prominent figure whose work benefited people across several sectors.

Memon said Pir Ilahi Bux established important institutions during his public career. He added that his successors, Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq and Barrister Pir Mujeeb-ul-Haq, continued his public-service tradition, particularly in education.

Barrister Pir Mujeeb-ul-Haq, PPP Dadu District President and Member of the Sindh Assembly, also addressed the gathering. He said the law college carries his grandfather’s name and reflects his enduring contributions to education and law.

Mujeeb-ul-Haq thanked the distinguished guests for attending the ceremony. He also praised Senator Naek’s contributions as a leading legal expert in Pakistan.

Leaders Attend Anniversary Ceremony

Former Sindh Senior Minister for Education Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq attended the event alongside District and Sessions Judge Dadu Zahid Hussain Maitlo and Deputy Commissioner Dadu Syed Murtaza Ali Shah.

A large number of distinguished guests from different walks of life also participated.

Concluding his address, Naek said education, constitutional supremacy, the rule of law and equal justice remain vital to Pakistan’s democratic future. He expressed hope that Government Pir Ilahi Bux Law College would continue producing capable lawyers, principled legal professionals and responsible citizens.
