K-Electric Exempts More Karachi Areas from Load-Shedding After Network Review

K-Electric load-shedding review announces improved electricity supply categories for several Karachi neighbourhoods.

K-Electric: More Karachi neighbourhoods gain load-shedding exemption following the utility’s quarterly network review.

K-Electric (KE) has announced its latest quarterly network review, granting load-shedding exemption to several Karachi neighbourhoods. The utility attributed the improvement to timely bill payments, reduced electricity theft and cooperation with local representatives.

The review has moved several areas from the medium-loss category to the low-loss category. These changes have improved their load-shedding status.

Korangi, Azizabad and Other Areas Gain Exemption

In Korangi, the areas include Abdullah Shah Noorani Colony, Pak Ittehad Colony, Zaman Town and Sectors 48-A, 48-B, 48-C, 48-D and 48-E.

The newly exempt areas in and around Azizabad include Blocks 2 and 8 of Federal B Area, Bhangoria Goth, Block 9 Yasinabad and Naimat Colony.

Other locations include Kyani Shaheed, Randle Road, APWA Complex Road, Jubilee Cloth Market and Biltistani Mohalla in Jacob Lines. Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai Colony, Altaf Town and Deh Dih Tapo Ibrahim Hyderi Goth have also moved into the improved category.

Parts of SITE and Sectors L-1 and 5-D in Surjani Town have recorded similar progress.

According to KE, lower aggregated technical and commercial (AT&C) losses helped improve feeder profiles. The company also credited engagement with local representatives and support for timely bill payments.

Load-Shedding to Decline in Several Other Areas

Some neighbourhoods have moved from the high-loss category to the medium-loss category. These areas are expected to experience reduced load-shedding.

They include Saadat Colony, Moria Khan Goth, Soldier Bazar, Tagore Street and Aminabad Society. Martin Quarters in Jamshed Town has also recorded a category improvement.

Parts of Orangi Town have made similar progress. These include Khawaja Ghareeb Nawaz, Millat Colony, Madina Colony and Al-Mustafa Colony.

KE said nearly 70% of its service territory, covering more than 2,100 feeders, remains exempt from load-shedding.

The updated schedule is effective immediately. Customers can check the latest details on KE’s website, through the KE Live app or via the company’s WhatsApp service. The previous quarterly review took place in July 2026.

KE Credits Public Cooperation for Improvements

KE spokesperson Imran Rana said the utility remained committed to providing reliable electricity to its customers.

He said improvements across various communities demonstrated the importance of timely bill payments and joint efforts to reduce line losses. Rana also acknowledged residents, local representatives and elected officials who supported efforts to curb electricity theft.

KE conducts quarterly, data-driven network reviews to assess feeder performance. The company said it would continue working with community representatives and elected officials to address electricity supply challenges.

Nearly 5,000 Anti-Theft Drives Conducted

Since the start of fiscal year 2026–27, KE has conducted nearly 5,000 operations to remove illegal electricity connections, commonly known as kundas.

The company reported removing more than 44,000 kilogrammes of illegal wires used to draw electricity without authorisation.

KE said it was working with government departments and law-enforcement agencies to address power theft. Areas with persistent theft would remain under monitoring until the next quarterly review, the spokesperson added.
