FPCCI Seminar Highlights Climate Change Risks to Industry, Economy and Public Health
FPCCI seminar highlights climate change challenges facing Pakistan’s industry, economy and public health.
The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) held a seminar and awareness session on the growing impact of climate change on industry, the economy and public health.
The event took place at the Tariq Saeed Auditorium, FPCCI Head Office, Clifton, Karachi. Muhammad Tahir Ansari, Convener of the FPCCI Central Standing Committee on Urban and Rural Development, and Shamsa Jabeen Jawed Ahmed, Convener of the FPCCI Central Standing Committee on Women Education and Training, jointly organized the session.
Speakers Highlight Climate Challenges
Muhammad Tahir Ansari, President of Alkhair Welfare Trust, delivered the welcome address. Shamsa Jabeen Jawed Ahmed, CSR Activist at FPCCI, presented the opening remarks.
She highlighted the need for plantation drives and stronger climate action plans. Her remarks also covered urban flooding, the situation in rural areas and the challenges facing agriculture and food production.
The session also examined the role of food technology in addressing climate-related pressures on Pakistan’s food system.
Experts Discuss Industry and Public Health
Several experts shared their views during the seminar. Speakers included Dr. Kanwal Nazim, Ecologist and Environmental Scientist; Dr. Samina Khalil of Preston University; and Dr. Samiya Tasleem, Assistant Professor at Bahria University.
Other participants included Intikhab Alam Zuberi, Director KDA Land; Dr. Nadia Mushtaq, Climate Change Activist; Dr. Muhammad Moosa of the Health Department and Alkhair Welfare Trust; Dr. Viqar of Karachi University; and Dr. Obaid of United Medical Foundation.

The experts discussed solid waste management and its implications for urban and rural development. They also explored ways to turn climate challenges into opportunities through innovation, entrepreneurship and business growth.
Seminar Explores Climate-Resilient Economy
Participants examined the effects of climate change on industries, the economy and public health. Discussions also focused on corporate social responsibility and sustainable environmental practices.
The speakers highlighted opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups to develop climate-focused solutions. They stressed the importance of building an eco-friendly and climate-resilient economy through coordinated action.
Muhammad Siddique Sheikh Appreciates Initiative
Muhammad Siddique Sheikh, Lifetime Member of FPCCI and CSR activist, attended the event as the chief guest. Former Sindh IT Minister Mian Zahid Hussain also graced the occasion.
Muhammad Siddique Sheikh appreciated the efforts of both FPCCI committees for organizing the session. He described the discussion as timely and relevant to industry, communities and public welfare.
The seminar concluded with a commitment to strengthen collaborative efforts for climate action, public health awareness and sustainable development.
