TDAP Holds Seminar on Aflatoxin and MRL Management in Bahawalnagar

The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) held a seminar on aflatoxin and Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) in rice.

The seminar was organised with the Pest Warning and Quality Control of Pesticides Wing of the Punjab Agriculture Department.

The event took place at Al-Noor Marquee in Bahawalnagar. Around 130 farmers, growers, exporters and millers attended the session.

Agriculture extension officers also participated in the seminar.

Focus on Rice Export Quality

The seminar is part of a wider awareness series by TDAP. The sessions are being held in major rice-growing areas of Punjab.

The initiative aims to help industry stakeholders meet international market requirements.

These included the Punjab Agriculture Department and Rice Research Institute Bahawalnagar.

Representatives from the Department of Plant Protection (DPP) also participated. A TDAP consultant provided additional technical guidance.

The experts discussed ways to control aflatoxin contamination in rice.

They also explained how businesses can comply with MRL requirements in international markets.

Better Drying and Storage Practices

The discussions highlighted the importance of proper drying and storage.

Participants were advised to improve rice handling practices. These steps can help reduce the risk of aflatoxin contamination.

Furthermore, experts stressed the responsible use of pesticides.

Proper pesticide use can help producers remain within residue limits required by international buyers.

Traceability and Certification Highlighted

Participants were also briefed on traceability and certification.
