Hamza Khan made an impressive start to the Pakistan Navy Fleet Club Open International Squash Championship by defeating the United States’ Shahjahan Khan in straight games to reach the pre-quarterfinals. The tournament, organised by the Sindh Squash Association, got underway at the Pakistan Navy Roshan Khan–Jahangir Khan Squash Complex in Karachi, featuring leading players from several countries.

Pakistan also enjoyed another positive result as Nasir Iqbal booked his place in the next round with a straight-games victory over Switzerland’s Loic Hafner, giving the home crowd an encouraging opening day.
Hamza Khan dominates opening match
Former World Junior Champion Hamza Khan needed just 27 minutes to overcome Shahjahan Khan of the United States. He controlled the match from the outset and secured an 11-6, 11-9, 11-4 victory to advance comfortably to the pre-quarterfinals.
Nasir Iqbal also delivered a composed performance, defeating Switzerland’s Loic Hafner in straight games to continue Pakistan’s strong start in the tournament.
Anas Khan exits after hard-fought battle
Pakistan’s wildcard entrant Anas Khan produced a spirited display but narrowly lost 3-2 to Hong Kong’s Matthew Lai. After recovering twice during the match, Anas eventually fell short with game scores of 2-11, 11-4, 9-11, 11-4 and 11-6.
Despite the defeat, the young Pakistani impressed with his resilience against an experienced international opponent.
International players progress
In other first-round matches, Egypt’s Hafez Abdullah defeated Pakistan’s Abdul Saeed in straight games, while Egypt’s Tolba Ali overcame compatriot Duncan.
Brazil’s Diego Gobbi registered a win over Japan’s Tomotaka Endo, Malaysia’s Siu Xian defeated Egypt’s Khaled Labib in straight games, and Japan’s Naoki Hashimi secured victory against Egypt’s Saif Tamer.
The championship continues in Karachi with players competing for valuable international ranking points and the tournament title.
