Karachi, June 16, 2026: A high-level delegation from Sohail University visited the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Karachi today to discuss opportunities for academic collaboration, research partnerships, innovation, entrepreneurship, and cultural exchange between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The delegation was led by Prof. Dr. Mohammed Saeed Quraishy, Vice Chancellor, Sohail University, Dr. Asma Tabassum, Director Office of Research, Innovation, & Commercialization (ORIC) Sohail University baccompanied by Mr. Ateeq ur Rehman, Financial Analyst & Member ORIC Steering Committee. The delegation was warmly received by His Excellency Mr. Sanjeewa Pattiwila, Consul General of Sri Lanka in Karachi at the Consulate General of Sri Lanka.

During the meeting, both sides engaged in fruitful discussions on strengthening academic linkages between Sohail University and leading Sri Lankan universities and research institutions. The discussions focused on fostering collaboration in areas including higher education, faculty and student exchange programs, joint research initiatives, healthcare sciences, innovation and entrepreneurship, climate action, and emerging opportunities in the blue economy.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammed Saeed Quraishy highlighted Sohail University’s commitment to internationalization and emphasized the importance of building strategic partnerships that promote academic excellence, research impact, and global engagement. He expressed keen interest in establishing institutional collaborations with Sri Lankan universities to facilitate knowledge exchange and collaborative research.

Director ORIC presented the university’s ongoing initiatives in research, innovation, commercialization, and entrepreneurship, while also exploring opportunities for cooperation in joint research projects in allied health sciences, management, information technology, nursing, pharmacy, medicine and seaweed-based research projects that can contribute to economic development and environmental sustainability.
Mr. Ateeq ur Rehman endorsed the date of the art facilities at Sohail university that can be beneficial for Sri Lankan students.
His Excellency Mr. Sanjeewa Pattiwila welcomed the delegation and appreciated Sohail University’s proactive efforts to expand international academic collaborations. He reaffirmed the Consulate’s support in facilitating connections with Sri Lankan universities and relevant institutions to promote mutually beneficial partnerships between the two countries.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening Pakistan–Sri Lanka relations through academic diplomacy, research cooperation, cultural exchange, and innovation-driven initiatives. Both sides agreed to continue engagement and explore practical avenues for collaboration that will benefit students, researchers, and academic communities in both countries.
