Petroleum Price Hikes Are Breaking the Public, Says Awaam Pakistan Party Leader Syed Aman Shah

KARACHI / QUETTA: Syed Aman Shah, Provincial Convener of the Awaam Pakistan Party Balochistan and a prominent tribal leader, has strongly criticized the government over repeated increases and minor reductions in petroleum prices, calling the policy a “cruel joke” with the people of Pakistan.

In a strongly worded statement, Syed Aman Shah said the government first imposes massive hikes in petrol and diesel prices and then announces small reductions after public backlash to create a false impression of relief for citizens.

He said the government’s pricing strategy was misleading the public while worsening the country’s inflation crisis and economic instability.

“The people are already exhausted by rising inflation, unemployment, and economic uncertainty, but the government’s non-serious policies are making life even more difficult for ordinary citizens,” he said.

Syed Aman Shah pointed out that the impact of increasing petroleum prices extends far beyond transportation costs. He explained that every rise in fuel prices immediately triggers sharp increases in the prices of food items, medicines, electricity, gas, and other essential commodities used in daily life.

According to him, the poor and middle-class segments of society are suffering the most as their purchasing power continues to decline amid persistent inflationary pressures.

He further stated that transport fares and market prices across the country increase instantly whenever petrol and diesel prices are raised. However, despite occasional reductions in fuel prices, the benefits are rarely transferred to the public.

“The government fails to ensure that reductions in petroleum prices translate into lower transport fares or reduced prices of essential goods,” he added.

Criticizing the federal government’s economic management, Syed Aman Shah warned that flawed economic policies were creating uncertainty, business stagnation, and financial instability throughout the country.

He demanded that the government adopt a transparent mechanism for determining petroleum prices and ensure that any relief arising from reductions in international oil prices is directly passed on to the people.

The Awaam Pakistan Party leader also urged authorities to immediately introduce people-friendly economic policies to ease the burden on citizens and restore public confidence in the economy.

He warned that if inflation, rising fuel costs, and economic hardships continue unchecked, growing public frustration could intensify into a more serious national issue.
