Karachi: The Consumers Association of Pakistan (CAP) successfully organized the 9th Consumers Road Safety Conference 2026 at Marina Club DHA Karachi, bringing together a wide range of political, social, business, academic, media, and law enforcement figures to address the growing challenges of road safety in the city and across the country.

The event saw active participation from students of NED University, Bahria University, and Sir Syed University, while the proceedings were conducted by anchorperson Agha Sherazi.

In his opening remarks, CAP Chairman Kaukab Iqbal highlighted the alarming rise in traffic accidents, reckless driving, weak enforcement of laws, and lack of public awareness. He stressed the urgent need for practical measures to reduce fatalities and improve road discipline nationwide.

Prominent guests of honour included political and business figures such as MPA Asif Moosa, Group CEO High-Q Pharmaceuticals Atif Iqbal, MPA Syed Shariq Jamal, and DIG Traffic Karachi Pir Muhammad Shah. They collectively emphasized strict enforcement of traffic laws, mandatory helmet and seatbelt use, improved licensing systems, modern traffic management solutions, and sustained public awareness campaigns.

Speakers including Dr. Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Ishtiaq Baig, and others underlined that road safety requires coordinated efforts between government institutions, law enforcement agencies, and civil society. DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah reaffirmed the need for discipline and stronger implementation mechanisms on Karachi’s roads.

Javed Iqbal, Chairman Traffic and Road Safety Foundation Pakistan, described road accidents as a systemic failure rather than isolated incidents. He called for digital traffic monitoring systems, removal of encroachments, infrastructure upgrades, and education-based awareness programs starting from schools and universities.

Special Secretary Home Sindh Saeed Sheikh, attending as chief guest, appreciated CAP’s efforts and stressed that only joint action between government bodies, police, transport authorities, and educational institutions can improve traffic conditions in the city.

The conference was attended by a large number of dignitaries including media representatives, civil society members, and CAP leadership from across Sindh. The event concluded with the distribution of commemorative mementos to guests of honour in recognition of their participation.

Chairman Kaukab Iqbal thanked all participants and reiterated CAP’s commitment to consumer rights, road safety, and public welfare initiatives across Pakistan.
