Rawalpindi: The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Monday announced the commencement of the Pakistan–Sri Lanka joint military exercise “Shake Hands-II,” aimed at strengthening counter-terrorism capabilities and bilateral defence cooperation.

US Says Iran ‘Serious’ About Deal but Nuclear Safeguards Non-Negotiable: Rubio

The two-week exercise began on April 27, 2026, at Tarbela, with participation from the Pakistan Army’s elite Special Services Group (SSG) and Special Forces of the Sri Lanka Army.

According to ISPR, the joint drills are designed to enhance professional skills through coordinated training exercises focused on counter-terrorism operations. The exercise also seeks to deepen longstanding military-to-military ties between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Military officials said participating troops will engage in the exchange of operational experiences and advanced tactical expertise, improving interoperability and fostering mutual understanding between the two armed forces.

The exercise reflects continued defence collaboration between the two countries and underscores their shared commitment to regional security and counter-terrorism efforts.
