Karachi, 16th April 2026: Dr. Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Member National Assembly and Acting Chairman of Standing Committee on Economic Affairs, met Arno Kirchhof, Deputy Head of Mission at Embassy of Germany, to discuss matters of mutual interest, including economic cooperation and regional stability.During the meeting, Arno Kirchhof acknowledged the challenges faced by Pakistan, particularly in addressing terrorism, and noted that while immediate implementation of certain measures may be difficult, a phased and practical roadmap could be developed to address said issues.
On behalf of Federal Republic of Germany, Arno Kirchhof appreciated Pakistan’s sincere and commendable efforts in promoting peace betweenUSA-Iran and in the region. Also acknowledged by Chancellor of German Friedrich Merz. He also highlighted broader regional and global economic challenges arising from conflicts in Middle East, like rising oil prices, inflationary pressures, and increasing unemployment globally.
Dr. Baig reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment addressing economic challenges and assured that, in his capacity as a member of Standing Committee on Commerce, he would raise said issues with the Ministry of Commerce for their redressal.
