Karachi: Chairman of the Arif Habib Consortium, Arif Habib, announced plans to expand Pakistan International Airlines’ fleet to 60 aircraft, with 18 currently operational and several under maintenance. He said the airline aims to restore five to six grounded planes, bringing the operational fleet to 26 in the near term.

Speaking at the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), Arif Habib highlighted Pakistan’s improving fiscal stability and emphasized the need to reduce production costs, especially electricity tariffs. He urged the business community to unite and advocate for industrial growth, with a focus on IT, agriculture, and mining sectors.
KATI President Muhammad Ikram Rajput, ABAD Chairman Hasan Bakhshi, and UBG Chairman Khalid Tawab encouraged forming a think tank and an economic charter to address Karachi’s industrial issues and proposed private-sector involvement in underperforming state entities for improved efficiency.
Rajput praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir for elevating Pakistan’s global stature, while leaders lauded Arif Habib’s role in revitalizing PIA and contributing to the national economy.
The event also highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic role in facilitating regional peace, including the recent US-Iran ceasefire, and noted the solidarity of Pakistani citizens in Iran.
