WASHINGTON : NASA has discovered a vast ancient river system deep in Mars. The river system discovered beneath the surface of the Red Planet by NASA’s Perseverance rover indicates that a river system once existed there billions of years ago. Perseverance’s RIMFAX instrument has probed deeper than ever before beneath Jezero Crater, an ancient and highly significant crater on the surface of Mars, revealing an ancient delta system filled with flowing water. In this regard, Emily Cardarelli, a geomicrobiologist at the University of California, said that overall, RIMFAX describes a broader aquatic system and indicates the presence of more water and signs of life than previously thought at Jezero Crater.
