Imran Khan and his spouse Bushra Bibi will have their petitions against convictions in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust corruption case heard by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on March 31.

According to the cause list released by the IHC registrar, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar and Justice Muhammad Asif will examine the pleas seeking suspension of the sentences handed to Imran and Bushra.

An accountability court in Islamabad had sentenced Imran Khan to 14 years and Bushra Bibi to seven years in prison on January 17, 2025, in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust graft case.

During the last hearing on March 11, the IHC imposed a fine of Rs100,000 on the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for employing “delaying tactics” in the proceedings. However, a later written order did not include any directive regarding the fine. The court had instructed NAB to be prepared for the next hearing, with the defence team pushing for a swift resolution.

The defence had requested that the petitions be resolved quickly, preferably before the upcoming Eid vacations. The appeals have faced procedural challenges, including objections from the IHC registrar over unsigned pages and the absence of a certificate confirming the case was not being heard elsewhere. These objections were cleared on February 26, allowing the court to proceed with the March 11 hearing, which also highlighted Imran Khan’s eye condition as a factor for urgent consideration.

The March 31 hearing will mark the next significant step in the ongoing legal proceedings surrounding the Al-Qadir Trust case.
