Karachi:February 10, 2026 Hamdard Foundation Pakistan(HFP) successfully organized the Hamdard Naunehal Assembly at the Bait-al-Hikmah Auditorium, Madinat-ul-Hikmah, under the theme “Loss in Emergencies: Whose Responsibility?”. The assembly brought together students, teachers, parents, and distinguished guests to raise awareness about emergency preparedness, safety, and civic responsibility.
Sadia Rashid, President of Hamdard Foundation Pakistan and National President of Hamdard Naunehal Assembly, highlighted the importance of responding to emergencies with calm, courage, and discipline. She emphasized that relying solely on institutions is not enough, and every individual must recognize their personal and collective responsibilities. She explained that timely decision-making, alerting others, contacting emergency services, prioritizing the safety of women, children, and the elderly, and proper use of fire-fighting equipment and emergency exits are all essential during crises. She further noted that the assembly aims to cultivate awareness, responsibility, and critical decision-making skills among children, as today’s informed youth are tomorrow’s responsible citizens.
Dr. Syeda Nadia Rizvi, Head of the Department of Research, Development & Education, underscored the need for children to develop self-protection skills, as emergencies can occur at any time. She delivered an informative presentation and showcased a documentary demonstrating how to respond effectively to fires, accidents, and other emergency situations. She encouraged students to actively participate and ask questions to enhance their learning.
Earlier, Ayesha Fawad, Leader of the House, defined emergencies as unexpected situations requiring immediate action. She stressed that managing emergencies is a shared responsibility of federal and provincial disaster authorities, local administrations, rescue services, and citizens. She noted Pakistan’s alarming traffic accident statistics, ranking first in Asia and 48th globally, with an average of 21 deaths daily due to traffic incidents. She highlighted that most accidents stem from human errors, including traffic violations, underage driving, mobile phone use while driving, and overspeeding, urging public awareness campaigns and inclusion of traffic safety in school curricula.
Acting Opposition Leader of Naunehal Assembly Jaisha Ahmar reflected on how accidents can turn joy into grief, citing the recent Gul Plaza tragedy, where delays, limited resources, and negligence worsened the outcome. She stressed the importance of learning lessons from such events to improve planning, accountability, and safeguard lives in the future.
The assembly also featured student speeches by Syeda Maryam Fatima, Hammad Mehmood, and others, along with remarks from the Founder of Rescue 1122 Sindh and his team. The event commenced with a recitation of the Holy Quran by Muhammad Ishaq Malik, followed by a Naat by Tayyiba Asghar. Students presented tableaus, sketches, and patriotic songs, and the program concluded with a prayer led by HMD Public School students.
